PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Good Thursday morning everyone!
It’s a quiet start on satellite and radar this morning with plenty of sunshine on the way for the morning commute. We’re off to another very warm and humid start with temperatures largely in the low to mid 70s.
We’ll see a very similar set up today to what we had yesterday. A little fog is possible in some spots for the morning, followed by mid to late morning sunshine, and then some fair weather cumulus clouds mainly away from the coast this afternoon with little to no rain chance.
With plenty of sun to go around, we’ll be plenty hot this afternoon. Highs push up to near 90 on the coast to the low 90s inland. The only exception to the 90 degree mark will be beaches today with an onshore breeze from Gulf water temperatures near 80 to keep them closer to the mid 80s. But once you get a mile or so away from the relatively cooler Gulf, you’ll certainly feel the heat and humidity! Heat indices today reach up to the mid to upper 90s, approaching the triple digits for the hottest spots inland.
That heat and humidity, plus onshore sea breeze, typically sets the stage for some afternoon storm activity. However, with high pressure overhead in combination with a bit more drier air aloft, we’ll only manage to pop off a couple stray showers in the afternoon away from the coast.
This will be the going pattern for us for Friday before a backdoor trough moves down the Eastern US will lead toward a couple weak frontal boundaries moving into the Southeast. That will set the stage for widely scattered rain chances over our weekend and into next week for both the coast and inland. Storms will be hit or miss, and if you catch one or two, they could last about an hour each.
For today, mostly to partly sunny skies with an isolated stray shower or two along I-10 or north into the mid to late afternoon. Highs today near 90° with a heat index in the mid to upper 90s. Your 7 Day Forecast keeps us running mainly dry over the next several days with plenty of heat and humidity.
