Hundreds of new and soon-to-be moms come together for World’s Greatest Baby Shower
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Tiny feet can make the biggest footprints in a mother’s heart.
“She has amazed me every day. Like I couldn’t be happier. She teaches me a lot and I don’t know a little baby just gives you an appreciation for things that you never thought,” Mother Ande Williams said.
But having a baby can be scary.
“When I went into labor I was like, how am I going to do this? I don’t know if I’m going to be a good mom. And I started freaking out,” Williams said.
Friday, Healthy Start hosted its 16th annual World’s Greatest Baby Shower. The free event shows new and soon-to-be parents the resources our community has to offer.
“From simply health plan, you know, as far as insurance to trust mark banking. A lot of the different things that you wouldn’t even think about. Just letting them know that there’s people out there that can help them and you don’t feel so alone,” Healthy Start Executive Director Sharon Trainor said.
And some parents are doing it on their own.
“A lot of people here don’t have support. I mean I don’t have support. We are a military family with no family around,” Healthy Start Health Care Coordinator Sanne Tingley said.
“Our families like live all over the place and we don’t have them here to kind of help with stuff,” Williams said.
Sometimes just a little help is all you need.
“We’re excited for baby number two. And we’ll figure out all of those changes too,” Williams said.
It’s about taking baby steps towards what every mother wants.
“Watching my kids grow and be healthy and be happy and make milestones and just become loving, thriving human beings. I think every mom deserves to watch their kid do that,” Tingley said.
Healthy Start helps families in Bay, Franklin, and Gulf Counties.
