PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - It’s time for students to start getting ready to go back to school. This means getting all the necessary clothes and supplies to send your child back with.

Back-to-school shopping can be a stressful time for not only students, but parents too.

“I know what it’s like to have a child and not be able to provide for that child,” Access Granted Founder Ashley Henderson said.

And providing for children is what Henderson said she wants to do for all who know the struggle.

“I want to make sure that everyone has equal access to clothes, equal access to school supplies,” said Henderson.

Access Granted held a community needs drive Friday to collect donations for students, with a big goal in mind.

“It’s 300 children to get the school supplies and 100 children with at least two pairs of pants, three shirts, and a pair of shoes going back to school,” said Henderson.

“We want all the kids to presentable. All the kids to have nice clothes,” Volunteer Kimberly Bush said.

On top of students being able to pick out clothes, they’ll receive a backpack. In it, they get folders, a composition book, and pens and pencils.

Henderson asks that these donations go to those who need them the most.

“For those parents who might not necessarily have the means to purchase clothes for their children or school supplies, they definitely are going to be the priority,” said Henderson.

Outside factors like Hurricane Michael and the Pandemic have contributed to why students may not have what they need going back to school. Bush said they see the need in the community is still great.

“The donations are definitely needed because the community still needs it,” said Bush.

“If you’re blessed, you’re blessed to be a blessing to others, not just to hold it in for yourself,” said Henderson.

And they both said don’t think of yourself, but think of the students as they go back to school.

Henderson said they’ll be collecting donations through the weekend before handing these donations out at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Panama City on Monday.
