BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The financial manager for the Panama City Beach Sports Complex is facing embezzlement charges after law enforcement said he allegedly stole roughly $37,000.

According to Bay County Sheriff’s Deputies, accounting paperwork discrepancies were noticed by employees at the Convention and Visitors Bureau earlier this month.

Deputies said after employees took a closer look at the paperwork, records allegedly showed someone was stealing money from ticket sales at the sports complex.

During their investigation, Bay County Sheriff’s Deputies said Darren Landry, 51, of Walton County, allegedly stole funds totaling $37,000.

Deputies said because Landry was the financial manager for the sports complex, he had access to all proceeds taken in by the complex, as well as access to all funds and accounting documents. According to investigators, Landry allegedly changed the amount of money taken in at the complex on accounting paperwork.

With help from Walton County Sheriff’s Deputies, Landry was taken into custody Tuesday. He’s being charged with grand theft and ongoing scheme to defraud.
