BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A Jacksonville contractor was found guilty of grand theft Monday for accepting money from a Bay County couple to make repairs to their home after it was damaged by Hurricane Michael.

Officials said Luis Perez, 54, accepted a large down-payment from the elderly couple but failed to perform the work or refund their money.

A judge sentenced Perez to 23 day in the county jail and ordered him to repay the couple. His jail time will be followed by 5 years of probation.
